Anthony Hightower

Anthony Hightower is Interim Vice President for Audit, Compliance, Ethics, and Risk Management at Augusta University, Georgia's health sciences university ^[1]. He previously served as Senior Associate General Counsel with Augusta University, and his work there has spanned the institution following the merger of Augusta State University and the Medical College of Georgia ^[1]. His legal experience includes employment, transactional, student and medical privacy, student affairs, disability, equal employment opportunity, and Title IX matters, and his practice is centered on higher education law ^[2].

Earlier in his career, Hightower worked as an Attorney, Senior Attorney, and Supervisory Attorney with the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights in Dallas, Texas, and Washington, D.C., managing a team of attorneys and investigators ^[2]. He also served as Director of the Offices of Equity, Access and Diversity at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. His earlier experience includes private law practice and service as an adjunct instructor at Clark Atlanta University ^[2].

Hightower received his undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from Clark Atlanta University, his Juris Doctor from the University of Iowa, and a master's degree from Harvard University, where he received the Kennedy Fellowship ^[2].

Hightower has been a NACUA member since 2006 and serves on the association's Board of Directors ^[1]. He has served on numerous NACUA committees and participated as a panelist or moderator at several NACUA conferences, served as Chair of NACUA's 2025 Spring CLE, and currently serves on the Committee on Virtual Programming and the Committee on Board Operations ^[2]. His civic contributions include service as an elected member of the Georgia House of Representatives and as a city councilman in College Park, Georgia ^[2].
