Bruce Highman

Bruce James Highman is an attorney at The Highman Law Firm in San Francisco, where he represents employees in employment law matters. He was admitted to the State Bar of California on December 4, 1981, and his license is active ^[1]. The firm, founded in 1976 by Louis Highman and formerly known as Highman & Highman, is now run by Bruce Highman.

Highman received his bachelor's degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1977 and his law degree from Stanford Law School in 1981. After law school he served as a law clerk to a justice of the Alaska Supreme Court in Juneau before entering private practice in 1982.

His practice covers employee-side cases involving wrongful termination; discrimination based on disability, medical condition, sex, pregnancy, race, age, religion, sexual orientation, and marital status; retaliation, including whistleblower retaliation; family and medical leave; harassment; qui tam claims under the False Claims Act; and wage and hour matters such as unpaid wages, commissions, missed meal and rest periods, and overtime and minimum wage violations. He has represented employees in both trials and settlement negotiations and has a number of published precedent decisions. He is admitted to the United States Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the U.S. District Courts for the Central, Eastern, and Northern Districts of California.

Highman has been selected for inclusion in Northern California Super Lawyers each year from 2004 through the present ^[2]. He has spoken on employment law topics at the National Employment Lawyers Association annual convention, the Bar Association of San Francisco, Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, and Skyline College. He is a member of the National Employment Lawyers Association, the California Employment Lawyers Association, the Bar Association of San Francisco, and the Labor and Employment Law Section of the California Lawyers Association.
